What is the difference between a Program and a Membership?

  Overview

In this article, you will learn the difference between a Program and a Membership

A Program in RecDesk:

Programs are alternatively called Activities, Courses, or Sessions. A Program is a one day event, or a reoccurring event with definitive start and end dates/times that you wish to ask your member to register into. When a member registers into a Program, they are paying a specific fee to participate in the entirety of the dates specified in that program. A program can also have optional add-on fees (i.e. - An optional $10 t-shirt for the road race they are registering into).

A Membership in RecDesk:

Memberships are something that your members can enroll for. This ranges from memberships for unlimited entry into your facility while in active date range(s) or punch/swipe pass that will allow them a limited number of entries to your facility. When a member enrolls into a Membership, they can enroll multiple Household Members, pay the fee associated and can choose to participate whenever they wish until the terms of the membership have ended.

  Tips:

  • Building a summer camp series of weeks is best built with each week being it's own program. This allows you to have an accurate roster for each week of camp.
  • If you allow members to make a monthly payment for their annual fitness center membership, you can build the system with a payment plan and apply it to their first enrollment invoice. If you have the payment processor Authorize.net you will be able to set these members on Auto Renew with a Monthly Payment Plan automatically applied for the next term.
  • Garden Plots can be handled with a program or a membership. Please contact your RecDesk Customer Success Manager to discuss which would work best for you!

Examples of Programs are: The annual Halloween Harvest Party, a weekend Children's Celebration in the Park, a Glass Blowing Class that meets every Wednesday for a month, a swim lesson that meets twice weekly for 10-weeks.

Examples of Memberships are: Annual Fitness Center Pass, Monthly Pool Memberships, Summer Swimming Pass, 20-swipe gym punch pass.
